So back in September I got this AMAZING commission at the Edmonton Expo. I wanted it to be perfect for the guy, because he was SUPER helpful, and amazingly kind. His request was a pin up of Poison Ivy, Harley, and Catwoman... with my own interpretation on top of that.
Given that last year Harley and I both came out as polyamorous I thought it would be fun to play off of that. I love the strong, sexy character we see in Harley. I relate to her abuse, and her survival. I love her edge. Ivy and Catwoman I am sadly not as familiar with, but I know their characters well enough that I felt I could do them justice.
The characters were easy. I had them sketched out and painted in a couple days. What I had ZERO vision of was the background. I went through various galaxy ideas, a cameo galaxy to fit with the bombshells theme, an actual city scape, all sorts of complicated or simple ideas... but nothing really hit me. I kept asking friends until I finally felt inspiration.
I feel fortunate to have done this commission. It was a gift at the time, and it has helped me learn and improve so much when I felt so down and worthless about my art. This piece challenged me.
